Having now had this Low Oil Pressure problem (not overheating) with two engines, and having done a lot of fruitless testing/replacing/pondering, I'm presently thinking maybe it's caused by an overfill of oil that gets frothed by the transmission gears.
That could explain why the low pressure...
One thought not yet mentioned in this thread: Get a better spark plug boot. One of our sponsors sells them. A forum search should yield the specifics for you. I installed one and it stopped an occasional stalling problem that was starting to develop.
I think so, but I know that the rear mounting bracket for the belly fairing is different, so you would have to get the bracket as well as the bodywork.
While you wait for your new cartridges, you may want to be sure you have the necessary special tools if you're going to DIY:
Heat gun
Pin spanner
Clip-on handlebar or similar deviuce (to grip the fork tub when unscrewing it from its base)
Helpful but not essential:
Fork oil level tool
End-mill...
GP may be an option in addition to Andreani. I installed them on my 2016. I suggest you CALL them rather than relying on the website. They are very helpful when you talk to them live.
Motorcycle Suspension Fork Cartridge Kits (gpsuspension.com)
Threaded into the bottom of the cartridge, through the bottom of the fork leg. Access to it is blocked by the axle when the wheel is installed, but there would be an access hole in the bottom of the fork leg that you can feel if you put your finger on the bottom end of the fork leg. You can...
In increasing cost order:
If you don't remove the side stand, then grind off the wire loop
Clip-ons (easier/cheaper to replace if crashed)
Keyless ignition and fuel cap
Lighter chain/sprockets
Carbon fiber wheels
Maybe a bad injector, but it sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Make sure the throttle body is properly fitted into the rubber boot on the cylinder head, that the clamp is properly tightened, and that there are no cracks or tears in the boot and no disconnected hoses anywhere.
Wow, the balancer flew out along with the front of both crankcase halves! I'd guess the root cause was a casting flaw in the crankcase. It looks repairable if you find a crankcase and do your own work. Paying someone to do it would cost more than just buying a used engine. And, as you...
I appreciate the discomfort at finding a clearance at the limit, but changing a shim to deliberately put the clearance beyond the limit??
Imagine you were just starting the job to check your valves, and you found that one was out of spec. Wouldn't you feel the need to change the shim to...
Good question, but, No. Shims really don't wear to any appreciable degree. However, valve faces and valve seats do wear and get pounded down over time, which causes the clearances to get tighter. Going to the loose end reduces the chances that the clearances will drop dangerously low before...
