Was it caused by the front axle sliders? The Allen bolt that replaces the brake side axle nut? I’m having the same issue and that’s the only thing I added and now I can’t find the axle nut !
This is the what just happened to me. Last season my cam chain broke and caused all sorts of damage. I bought a refreshed replacement motor and ran into the same issue you are describing. I only ran 2 practices and a race and started hearing noises. Opened it up and saw the broken pieces.
Going through my storage unit doing some spring cleaning and found my akra can and cat I removed. It’s dinged and has a few dents as you can see in the pics. Fully functional. Maybe someone has use for it.

Do you have to take the whole base off to remove the gas tank cover? That’s the issue I have with my stock cap.. every time I need to take the cover off I have to take the whole fuel cap assembly off. PITA!
