"I'm told" that the fire-ring and spears bolts basically makes it bulletproof. I was hesitant to use another hi-comp gasket this time around but Paxton at Gray Area assured me with the fire-ring and the studs I'm good; ain't gonna blow. Fingers crossed. I'm hoping you'll be successful as well...

Blew the head. Skimmed and replaced gasket with KTM hi-comp gasket. Blew head again in 60 miles. Now rebuilding with fire ring and spears head bolts. Pray for me.

Well, I'm not so sure you should classify unreliability as a "rumor." My road-going 2017 (never tracked) overheated and blew a head gasket at 6100 miles. Head was re-decked and rebuilt by a very experienced engine builder; silicon hoses, upgraded fan. The whole thing cost me $3500. Head blew...

Hopefully yours won't overheat and blow another head gasket 50 miles after you put your engine back together....as mine did.
