Thanks Tom, I’d want to use the older gen accessories so ECU not a problem. Somebody must have done it with all the engine shuffles on these bikes. Lol.
I guess the newer head are a direct bolt in to older bikes so the old intake must bolt on?
Slight change of OPs goals but fits the title,
are the 2017-18-19 engines a direct bolt in to the 2015/16 bikes? Besides throttle body being wireless, will the actual block bolt in and accept the 15/16 intake/exhaust?
Thanks
Ok, sorry to have asked here. I see the other head gasket thread got bumped up after mine, lol. I guess it’s a bad crap shoot regardless. If you guys have an estimate I’d still like to hear it but I guess on the first two years just assume it will happen eventually.
Thanks for any reply.
I think you guys are the authority on this topic but I’ve been out of the 390 game awhile. I got out in time but had doubts my 15 RC would go the typical 25,000 I like to use a new bike despite a sweet Chad tune and measures to keep it cool, in street sport riding.
Anyway, my son called me...
"so am I winning at over 23,000mi? And does it still count even though my engine was replaced 8,000mi ago? Almost at 2 years of riding this bike (and now I have 3 others), started at 8500mi used.
Same story here! Our bikes must have been built (defectively) one right after another... I have 21K...
Lifetime member at ktmtalk, had half a dozen older LC4s, three 950s, KTM MX bikes since 97 when nobody was MXing them. Some "known issues" Ive experienced, some never struck my bikes but I knew they were questionable and addressed what I could with certain measures, like converting known...
I was researching the 17 as they are stacked to the ceilings as new leftovers, hoping things got better regarding reliability. Hypotheticals no, actual issues yes. No shortage of the latter it seems regardles of the generation.
https://www.rc390-forum.com/forum/ktm-rc-390-general-discussion-forum/2396-racers-reliability-report.htmlSince this thread was inspired by my search for a SS oil filter.... Just skimming notes here by engine builders tossing away a good percentage of brand new OEM head studs for failure to meet...
Based on my forum scanning here and there, its hardly a surprise! Hahaa
I knew of various issues when I had my 2015 RC, and in its short 4,000 miles with me
I always kinda expected it to go boom.
The more I dig up on the 17/18 390 engines the less I think I want another one. WP seals, coolant swelling paper oil filters and catastrophic engine failures? Might be tied to the head gaskets too? Geez.
So, before I give up, are there any SS screen style oil filters for this engine? I...
Seems the RC is rotting on the vine for some reason. OEM parts list the OEM shock In the Duke is over $450, the RC around $250. Duke has "heavy duty" fork with seperate function in each of the legs in the parts fische, not the RC. New Duke frame, body work, tank, instruments, hmmm.
Still...
For my needs Im not looking for max power, (or noise) just good smooth fueling. The heat thing, well Id think the stock 17 exhaust is just as bad if not worse than the 15/16? Its a huge heat sink but I get the message.
Are there big differences in dyno tests of both styles of stock systems...
More video searching shows they obviously changed the exhaust "jug" on the new gen bikes as it is deafening without the exit side muffler.
So new header plus take off 15/16 muffer. Im not into loud so question answered. Thanks KVA!
I was quite happy with a tune, slightly opened air filter cover and the stock muffler on that bike. Kinda thinking the side can is kinda tacked onto a slightly different chambered muffler as it is said to be super quiet system now. Hmmm. The stock can by my estimation from "390 quiet core...
I would like to know if the new exhaust is (basically) just an added on extra muffler to a different (but effectively the same) 15/16 style muffler behind the engine. If not, has anyone fitted the new gen header and muffler to eliminate the side can? The sleek underbelly exhaust was one of my...
Ex first gen RC 390 owner. I modded that one with brakes and suspension, tuner etc to get a pretty good lil sport bike. Still, I had a R3 that was bone stock that was just a better street bike, zero mods.
Anyway, the local dealer is blowing out 2017 RC/Dukes and the price caught my eye. So...
