I think a dirty fuel injector overheated mine. I've replaced the gasket 3 times before I caught the injector. Since then, I've put in a new injector and remapped it. It seems to be holding together now.
As for taking out the thermostat, I'd be pretty hesitant to do that. I cold seized my...
A rotor hone should take care of build up.
Also, the 320mm PP rotors are supposed to be a floating design. Galfer puts the buttons on with a pretty stout wave washer which doesn't allow them to float much. I took a socket of the correct size, and a hammer to "set" the washers down a bit. My...
I had a trouble free race season last year, and this year have put in 3 head gaskets, a piston, cylinder, several valves, and sparkplugs. There is another local with a cup bike who lost his 2nd gasket and the piston as well...
For most of this time, I was running stock airbox/filter, and the...
Having seen several stolen bikes that were abandoned and subsequently returned when they were run out of gas, I like locking caps on streetbikes. That said, I absolutely hate anything which requires a key on race bikes, just one more thing to break or misplace when you are in a hurry. I'm glad...
You can decat the exhaust by cutting through 3 layers of steel on the bottom with a hole saw. Then you gut the cat with a deep holesaw/punch, etc.
As for shock damping, there is no compression damping to speak of. A replacement or revalve of the stock shock will transform the bike, even with...
Thanks for the reply Matt. Just to be clear, while a flat would certainly make for ease of tightening, I was thinking it would add a little clearance for removing the battery cover while maintaining the increased material on the bottom half of the pin for rigidity.
Nice work. Have fun...
Looking at the design, those should adjust front ride height by shortening or lengthening the overall length of the forks, they will not actually change the installed preload of the spring. Still faster than sliding the tube up and down in the triples, but won't change your sag numbers without...
Hi Matt,
At the risk of bringing up things you thought about weeks ago... How about milling a small flat half way up the pin, or if the pin needs to rotate, you could step it so that it is 5/8 at the base and 1/2 at the top half. You would retain most of the rigidity, and still have the...
That shim is just a check plate which is held loosly in place with that spring. The actual valving is from the holes in the piston. You would need a pretty massive increase in spring rate to affect the damping with that spring. If you built a stack of shims instead of the check plate, you...
Hi Matt,
That looks very nice! One question though; the damper mount on the triple looks to be maybe higher and thicker than needed. Any chance to slim that area down a bit? Aside from weight, keeping things low reduces the likelyhood of damage in a crash.
Thanks for the excellent work so...
My bike is not boggy at all, and the map was about 12.8-13:1 across the range (just about where I'd want it) at sea level with non-ethanol pump gas. Very driveable with smooth roll on. No reason I can think of not to do it.

Hi Dean,
As hard as it is to believe, I think the stock exhaust is not too bad for power. If you want more juice, the Acra map from the dealer gives almost 3 hp. If you want more sound from the stock location, a couple of holes drilled in key places would probably achieve that as well. The...
Interesting. My Penske shocks are closer to 22-24 clicks for compression. As long as the valving is in the correct range, 6 clicks could cover it... Just surprised is all.
