I just finished installing mine over the weekend. What a PITA! Thanks to this forum I was able to get it done solo. That bottom pin was a bitch to get out.
What =maz= said. The case covers are required for racing so that if you go down you don't leave liquids on the track because the fact is the cases ARE cheap and will grind through rather quickly. It's about augmenting and making the bike sturdier as opposed to "protecting" the cheap parts.

That's the thing about clip-ons psych0hans...there are no issues until there are issues. These things aren't going to warn you when they are about to fail. :-)
He is saying that if you intend to race an RC390 in the KTM cup it has to have been an original cup bike to start with. If you don't intend to enter into the cup series you can buy race parts for the street version. I would suggest going the street route if you aren't interested in the cup...

I went with the rebuild and I am quite happy with the performance. I too race mini's (NSR50r) and so i'm used to crap suspension and didn't even mind the poor performance on my RC but now that I've made the change...the difference is night and day. I'm in SoCal and had Ed at Lindermann...
