Cam sprocket cracked cylinder head

What a day!

After warming the bike up and bliping the throttle, there was a horrible metallic knocking noise. After taking the engine out, I found that the bolt holding the timing sprocket on the cam had come loose. It has bent the cylinder head and cracked it, along with the valve cover.

Has anyone come across anything like this before? Can anyone lend some advice? I have managed to find most parts which thankfully seem fairly easy to get a hold of.

I just had my bike in for a ring and piston at a KTM dealer. They took it out for a test ride and this exact same thing happened to them on the test ride. Supposedly, did some major damage. The bike now needs a new cylinder head and cam bridge. Who knows what else is damaged.
I am glad this happened while they were doing the work and not me. They said that the bolt holding the timing sprocket is torqued in a special alignment tool and should never some loose.

Did you ever get the bike repaired?
