I'd rather shorten the chain and keep wheelbase in. However, at the track surgery doesn't always allow you to do so. Plus, I had the T43, T44, and T45... and was going to test through them. Went from T45 to T43 and never ended up trying the T44.

Ha anyone tried a 42T sprocket on the rear? Would that be too tall?

We always choose the 46 rear for our terrain, which is tighter mountain work, while retaining a decent ability for longer high speed commutes. I would guess a 42 would be crazy tall, and good for nothing but interstate cruising, and may be too tall for that....
