coming from automotive performance stuff, brake discs need to be massive. The mass is there to absorb heat. essentially, thats all we are doing when we brake. We are converting kinetic energy into heat. A wee bit of sound and sometimes some light, but normally just heat. Once the brake rotor can no longer store or shed heat as fast as its absorbing it, the brakes fade.
