Rubber Engine shroud removal?

I've been looking at the flexible rubber shroud between the radiator and engine head. At first I thought it was to improve cooling, but I'm thinking more that it might keep the hot air off the rider and maybe reduce engine noise. Do the Cup bikes have this floppy rubber sheet like the street bikes, or is this just a street thing. Has anyone removed it with no problems? I sure prefer to be able to see my engine...

The cup does not come with it and I just omitted it from the one I'm building motor wise...

Yep , ditched mine to , i thought it may be some kind of splash guard for wet weather . Anyway its in the bin ..

I can't even FATHOM what its purpose is... Given the cup bikes don't have it tho, that settles it! It's going into long term storage! It was total HELL getting it off in the first place, and I didn't even want to think what out would have taken to put it back on.
