Well, I woke up this morning at it was gone.

If you had accessories (like the pipe) on the bike you should be abel to get compensation for those as well.

In the future get a cover, one with a lock so that the cover isn't stolen. It makes thieves less likely to mess with the bike because they don't know what it is. Also, putting a lock or two on the bike helps. It's like that old story of the two friends camping in the woods when they hear a bear. One starts putting on his shoes, and the other says why are you doing that you can't out run the bear. To which he replies, I don't have to out run the bear I just have to out run you. If your bike is even a little bit less attractive to steal than the bike next to it you are more likely to not have to go through the trauma. True locking the bike up is a pain in the ass, but it's much preferred to the alternative. ;)

Cornerslider, that's great to hear about progressive.

Tora, I had a cover on it, which they left on the ground. The bike was staying in a shed connected to a home alarm, as I've lost 1 bike before so I wanted to take all precautions. I stayed at a friend's for a few days and it got stolen from there. But you're right man, it doesn't hurt to do everything in your power to deter a thief.

Always. If I had to guess, I'd say they probably just picked it up and carried it away. I still have both the keys, it was under a cover and the steering lock was on., I was parked directly in front of the stairs at my friend's place right under the lights.

I've seen surveillance video of this sort of thing. They pull up with a van or trailer, a couple guys chuck the bike in, and they're gone in like 15 seconds. It's sickening to watch.

When my 600rr was stolen, insurance and police told me that the chances of recovery are very slim and if the bike isn't recovered within a couple of days, it's gone forever, Taken style. All it takes is several seconds and a van. Our bikes are very light and only makes it that much easier to pick up.

Keep an eye on any classifieds within at least a 10 mile radius.

A lot of stolen bikes I've heard end up being used as track bikes. People change the bodywork and take em on a trailer and they never register them or drive them on the road. I live just a few miles from Barber's so I've got a few friends who are keeping an eye out there for it too. I mean hell, there aren't that many RC's around so it should be easy to spot.

I had a bike stolen in front of a bar in Tempe. It was kinda a one of a kind, many parts changed. I found it in a grocery store parking lot about a year later. The guy that had it didn't change a thing, and actually took pretty good care of it. I got it back, the guy walked.

Thieves

It takes about three seconds to defeat the steering lock. The bar and a leg is so much leverage Atlas would be impressed. Skip ahead on these things because they take a while as the thief cases the joint.

But as you can see in these videos you don't even have to do that--simply overwhelming the key with enough leverage is all you have to do. It's funny how this guy treats the covered bike (no I don't believe it has anything to do with the cover).

What all of these videos suggest is that putting some locks on the bike will probably make your bike unattractive enough to keep it around.
