Replacing fork oil

Is it correct that you have to remove and disassemble the forks to replace the fork oil?

Would it be possible to drill and tap a fork oil drain bolt?

Remove, yes. Disassemble... partially. You have to unscrew the top cap to be able to pour the fork oil out.

As for an oil drain bolt... possible, yes. Would I do it? Even as a machinist, in THESE forks, no ******* way!

The question I have for you is to the nature of why are you replacing the fork oil? There are a few reasons for doing it, but based on your answer I may have additional recommendations for you.

After opening the cap, flip the fork, pump it few times and let it sit upside down. Four 420 cc of 7.5 to 10w oil.

Awesome, thanks guys.

I want to try some heavier fork oil to stiffen up the front end a bit. Will do springs in the future, but am trying to minimize the downtime because I've already wasted too much time wrenching this summer.
