These bikes crash really well.

The KTM parts are pretty cheap. I'd be difficult to impossible for me to compete price wise there. That's why I'm carrying the Tyga rear sets. Those have all those parts as available replacement pieces. As for ending up stranded... Well... Don't crash! LOL Seriously tho, it is possible to get around in an emergency situation of a "just gotta ride home" scenario with a broken shift lever. BTDT Not on the RC390... but...

I've got a great story about launching myself into low earth orbit on my old 87 Gixxer 750. This photo was taken about thirty seconds prior to launch...

If you are attempting to ride off the curb in front of a hotel, first, check to make sure you aren't on an asphalt colored mat, when you drop the clutch to carry the front wheel over the curb. When you finish shooting the mat out from under the rear wheel, at about the time you are thinking you just just have forgotten to put the bike in gear, the rear wheel will grab traction and LEAP the bike... With a rear wheel speed of about 50mph. You'll land about 20' away from where you were... and have no idea WTF just happened.

"Tank, load the jump program." :)

I also learned that evening how to bump start, and clutchless shift, with a missing clutch lever. My Gixxer never quite forgave me for that evening, but it did get me home...

Pure gold! Gave me and the wife a great laugh. Sigh, Sorry about your Gixxer though.

Dropped my bike in the garage earlier last week, left side down, only damage is minor scratches on bar end and minor scratches on bottom/under side of the engine case. It would appear that the order of objects to hit the ground on the left side is 1) bar end 2) engine case 3) gear lever as far as I know

Got thrown off my RC390 in a high side and the bike stayed upright. Rolled off the track and took a gentle dirt nap. Only damage is the broken off steering stop on the lower triple and a small ding in the tank plastics where the clipons made contact.

Here is the dirt side after riding the rest of the day.

Got some fancy racing marks on my leathers and toasted my brand new helmet. Glad I had the gear!

I let a good friend of mine ride my bike on our favorite mountain road. He is a GP shift guy and my bike is set up standard. Can you guess the outcome

Took my RC390 to Laguna yestreday. With exception of Tyga rearset, windshield and crash protection, everything else is stock (tires, suspension, exhaust). I went down at Andretti hairpin, lost the front. Bike went down on the left side. Thought you wanted to see left side damage. Fortunately, I have the full set of crash protection from T Rex racing and I am very happy I did. The clutch lever rotated (didn't break, no bend) on the handlebar, rearset footpeg grind down, mount plate bent/twisted, ignition case slider and frame slider grind. Other than that, not a scratch anywhere else.

On a side note, I have never lost a front end before. I have replayed the incident many times in my head by now, I wasn't trail braking, I lost the front in midcorner on somewhat neutral throttle. I think the crash was due to one of the 3:
1. leaned too far on the front tire, rolled over the edge
2. suspension unloaded on the front (the stock suspension is horribly soft and bouncy for a 200 lbs rider so much that it's scary) because rebound isn't sufficient?
3. tire wasn't hot enough
The stock tires ... are different. I've used Rosso 2 before, but these do not feel like Rosso 2 at all. Anyone using a 120 front on this bike?
