Water pump mods?

I am going to be pulling out my water pump and replacing all the gaskets and seals.
While hunting around for info I've seen mention of re-loctiting a nut, adding a lock washer and maybe some other things.
I did not see any write ups on what things should be done to help improve the water pump area.
Since I'm going to be removing it, would anyone recommend things I should do while I have the chance?

FWIW, here is an old post of what I did, I have used the XC seals on 3 RC390's so far with no issues...

Can all this work be done without splitting the case?
If so do I need some kind of puller to get the impeller off?

No you do not split the cases , no puller is needed for impeller...

In that informative thread, you wrote that "in the end I chose to use the XC seal for the crankcase side and an FPM seal for the pump side." But your note above suggests you now just use two XC seals instead of a mixed pair?

Yes, that is correct. I have found the XC seals are easier to source...
